Adhesive Levels

Cutting mats may be offered in three different adhesive strengths:

Light Tack

This adhesive level is for more delicate materials that may otherwise tear or curl when removed from stronger adhesive levels.

Standard Tack

This adhesive level is for most standard material types.

Strong Tack

This adhesive level is for fabric and other specialty materials that need to be held firmly during the cutting process.

Adhesive Toxicity

The adhesive for Silhouette cutting mat products is neither hazardous nor toxic.

Though not expected or common, consult a physician if a rash develops. Always wash your hands after use.

Cutting Mat Purpose & Requirement

The cutting mat holds materials in place while the cutting action is being performed.

Materials being held in place properly during the cutting process ensures the cuts performed are precise and in the correct location.

You must use a cutting mat if either of the following is true:

a) Your material is not wide enough to be gripped firmly and evenly by the machine's pinch rollers
b) Your material does not have its own backing, and your machine model does not offer the 'Pop-out Cut' feature

Cutting Mat Lifespan

The lifespan of the cutting depends on a variety of factors, including:

Frequency of Use

Of course, the more the cutting mat is used, the more it will be worn down. Repetitive cuts performed in the same area will also wear the adhesive strength down more quickly.

Material Type

Some materials will wear the mat down much more quickly than others, especially those that are fibrous, have lint, or are "fuzzy", as these types of materials may leave behind parts of the material that cover the adhesive surface and make the adhesive strength less effective.

Cut Settings

Incorrect cut settings, especially those where the Blade and/or Force setting is higher than necessary, can unnecessarily wear the mat down more quickly, or in some cases even cut through the mat.

Cutting Mat Replacement

The cutting mat should be replaced once materials are no longer held in place properly during the cutting process, and you have previously been able to use that material type on your mat.

Replacement cutting mats are available for purchase.
