Removing some material types from the cutting mat may cause them to curl. This may be especially true for thinner or more delicate materials.

Here are some tips to help resolve this concern.

Checking Your Cutting Mat

Check to make sure you are using the proper cutting mat adhesive type for your material type. If using a Strong Tack or Standard Tack mat, you may wish to downgrade to a Light Tack mat instead.

Lifting Smaller Objects Off the Mat

When removing smaller items from the mat, we would recommend using the Spatula Tool. This tool can help to more easily lift materials from the cutting mat and prevent curling.

Lifting Larger Objects Off the Mat

When removing materials with a larger surface area (such as a full sheet), try the following:

  1. After your job is completed, eject the cutting mat from the machine
  2. Hold the cutting mat face down onto a hard flat surface
  3. Carefully peel the mat away from your material (rather than peeling the material up from the mat)

This causes the material to stay flat and have the mat bend instead.

While this method is not always fool-proof and may still cause some curling, it generally is a good trick to prevent the material from curling more dramatically.
