Silhouette Studio license keys unlock upgraded editions on up to three personal computers simultaneously.

Once a license key has been applied to an account, the upgrade edition for Silhouette Studio will be unlocked. This license key is tied directly to your account and cannot be shared with others.


Initial License Key Application


If you have purchased a software upgrade directly from SilhouetteAmerica.com, the license key will automatically be applied to the account you purchased it under, and you can do the following to unlock your upgrade edition:


  1. Open Silhouette Studio
    IMPORTANT: Make sure you are running the latest version for these steps to work properly
  2. Go to the 'Help' menu
  3. Click on "Apply Upgrade Edition"
  4. Enter your Silhouette account with your email address and password
  5. Click on the 'Activate' button


If you have purchased a license key from one of our Authorized Retail partners, you can do the following to apply the license key and unlock your upgrade edition:


  1. Open Silhouette Studio
    IMPORTANT: Make sure you are running the latest version for these steps to work properly
  2. Go to the 'Help' menu
  3. Click on "Apply Upgrade Edition"
  4. Enter your Silhouette account with your email address and password
  5. Click on the 'Activate' button
  6. The software will prompt you to enter a license key if one is not already found on your account
  7. Enter the license key code

Re-Applying License Key to a New Computer


Suppose your computer has crashed or you want to use your Silhouette Studio upgrade on another computer. In that case, you can do the following to apply your upgrade to your new/another computer:


  1. Open Silhouette Studio
    IMPORTANT: Make sure you are running the latest version for these steps to work properly
  2. Go to the 'Help' menu
  3. Click on "Apply Upgrade Edition"
  4. Enter your Silhouette account with your email address and password
  5. Click on the 'Activate' button

Maximum Devices Reached


If you have followed the steps above, but encountered the following error message: 


'... maximum number of active devices for this account has been reached.'


... this indicates you have reached the maximum number of available active devices for your account. You will need to manage your devices to free up a device space on your Silhouette account.


"License Key Already in Use" Error


If you encounter an error message stating that the license key is already in use, you will need to upgrade your Silhouette Studio program to the latest version in order to proceed. Updating your software and repeating the steps above will resolve your concern.


Can't Update Software


If you can't update Silhouette Studio to the latest version, you can contact support@silhouetteamerica.com to confirm that you are unable to update your software version and we will reset your license key.

NOTE: You must own the license key you are requesting to be reset or we will not be able to reset it. The license key must either be already applied previously to your account (usually from applying the license key onto another older computer device successfully), or you must provide proof of purchase/ownership.


Can Update Software but Still Can't Apply License Key


If you can update Silhouette Studio to the latest version but still cannot apply your license key successfully, contact support@silhouetteamerica.com to confirm your Silhouette account address and license key code.


Locating Your License Key Code


Once applied to your account successfully, you should not require your license key code anymore as the current Silhouette Studio software will automatically check your account for any applied license keys when you sign into the software through the 'Help' menu.


If you do need your license key code for any reason, you can find it on your Silhouette account if you have ever applied it to any computer previously, regardless of the software version.


If you have never applied your license key, but purchased one directly from Silhouette, you can find your license key code in your SilhouetteAmerica.com order history.
